Hello and welcome to
Ceilidh Culture 2010!
Now in its eighth year, Ceilidh Culture is a great opportunity to get involved with the traditional arts, whether it be music, song, dance or storytelling – right here in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.
Ceilidh Culture brings together a large number of contributors from all over Edinburgh and beyond, for a real celebration of all that is wonderful about the traditional arts in Scotland. With more than 30 contributing organisations, Ceilidh Culture proudly showcases local talent alongside international acts.
Whether you’re familiar with the traditional arts or not there is something for everyone to enjoy. From family friendly workshops and concerts to late night award winning folk clubs. There are also some great ceilidhs to get you moving with introductions to dances for those who may be unsure of how they go – so no excuses now – give it a go!
But it’s not just about the music. This year, Ceilidh Culture has its very own street fair with a bonanza of stalls with food and drink, crafts, fashion and music, all celebrating the very best of Scotland (2-5 April, 10am - 6pm, Castle Street).
The festival is a Council led project, which owes much to the support of our sponsors, and I would just like to thank them for their support and assistance.
In parallel to the events running as part of Ceilidh Culture, the City of Edinburgh Council has been developing a Gaelic Language Plan which sets out a series of actions to develop the Gaelic language within the city. The analysis of the information is underway – to find out about it go to: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/gaeliclanguageplan where you’ll find monthly updates.
