Come along to join in with an informal, open session of music and song, with Linten Adie and friends from the Scots Music Group. A relaxed afternoon of melodies that is that is suitable for all ages and abilities in the centre's Storytelling Court.
In a programme which features his own arrangements of traditional music alongside compositions in the style of Satie, Chopin, Scriabin and Messiaen, and music by the late great Breton harpist Kristen Nogues, Francois Pernel demonstrates extraordinary originality and versatility. Listen out for unexpected rhythms, deep harmonies, swing, improvisation - and a few surprises! A Geordie by birth, Emily Hoile's repertoire, ranging from traditional to contemporary folk including her own compositions, has delighted audiences each side of the border. She played at the first ever Folk Prom in London, performed with Sting in Gateshead and was the youngest finalist in 2008 Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, where "she demonstrated absolute mastery of her instrument."
Maggie MacInnes will sing Gaelic songs many of which have been in her family for generations as well as one or two favourite scots songs. "The Trio of Maggie singing and playing clarsach, Brian McAlpine on keyboards and accordion and Anna Massie on guitar, generates a subtle yet emphatic pallet of accompaniment at times sparse, at others gently swinging with lilting syncopations and then rapid fire reeling." 'Making the Connection' was specially written by Corrina Hewat for the first 'New Voices' series at the Celtic Connections Festival. Corrina has rewritten it for two harps (Corrina herself and Mary MacMaster), two voices (Inge Thomson and Mairi Campbell), pipes (Lorne MacDougall) and percussion (Donald Hay) plus the inimitable Mr McFall's Chamber (Lise Aferiat and Robert McFall, violins; Brian Schiele, viola; Su-a Lee, cello and Rick Standley, double bass). The Edinburgh International Harp Festival is delighted to give audiences an opportunity to hear a new version of this exciting piece.
On Tuesday 13th April the Jimi Shandrix experience will be playing. One of Scotlands best known ceilidh bands with the legendary accordionist Sandy Brechin. It should be another great evening of music and great craic.
