The Cannongate Cadjers are inspired traditional musicians with an experienced caller who will ensure everybody is up and dancing for a night to remember. Over 18's only. Our Spring Equinox Ceilidh welcomes Hud Yer Wheest - a well-loved band, calling all dances, with a lively mix of traditional music and funky grooves. We have a local and organic licensed bar, raffle, and Gandolf as our Master of Ceremonies. The profits from the door, bar and raffle will be split between SAMH's Redhall Walled Garden (an Edinburgh-based organic walled garden working with people recovering from severe and enduring mental health problems) and Wiston Lodge (a charity based in an old Victorian hunting lodge in South Lanarkshire which aims to provide physical, mental and spiritual challenge in a safe and sheltered residential environment.)

The band is a six-piece, fiddle-driven, Scottish ceilidh band of the finest quality based in Edinburgh, but with a distinctly west highland flavour. Calling for all dances is provided as required. Traditional music, song and dance performed with abundant enthusiasm this event is suitable for all ages and promises to be a fun packed evening - all you need to supply is a willingness to 'hae a go'. Support (8.30pm) : Alison Ewan (fiddle), who comes from Pencaitland began learning the violin five years ago at age eleven. She is a student at Ross High School, Tranent, East Lothian and is studying Traditional Music at the Royal Scottish Academy Junior Academy.

18th Edinburgh Weekend of 'Playford' Dancing

Dancing Workshops with Nicolas Broadbridge
Simone Verheyen, who was to have come to teach again at our 18th annual Workshop Weekend, is unable to lead the workshops this year, but her programme will now be taught by Nicolas Broadbridge, teacher and leader of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Assembly, who has taught and played for workshops, festivals and dance camps in England, Europe and America, and has been teaching English Country Dance for many years.
He leads The Assembly Players band, which has recorded an extensive repertoire of dances (15 CDs) from which Simone chose her material for this weekend.

Music for the weekend will be played by two experienced and exciting musicians:
Aidan Broadbridge - violin
Michael Barnett - keyboard/ piano.

Swedish Folk group Svanevit (meaning 'white swan' includes unique combinations of harp, percussion, Swedish bagpipes, nyckelharpa, mandola, fiddle and voice mixing beautfil medieval ballads mix with merry schottisches, captivating traditional songs and of course the ubiquitous polska! Erik Ask-Upmark - harp, Swedish and medieval bagpipes; Anna Rynefors - nyckelharpa; Maria Larsson - fiddle; and Anders Larsson - mandola and vocal. Unity Ceilidh: Robert Fish Band

Come dance away the evening with one of Edinburgh's most well-known ceilidh bands, the Robert Fish Band - they'll be calling all dances, with a lively mix of traditional Scottish tunes and a few dances from further afield. Special guests include the 20+ piece Forest Choir. We have a local and organic licensed bar, raffle and Gandolf as our Master of Ceremonies. This is Ceilidh Collective event with 100% profits from the door, bar and raffle going to the UNITY centre. The UNITY centre in Glasgow provides practical solidarity and support for asylum seekers, especially when they face being locked up in detention centres or being forcibly removed. UNITY is run by a collective of volunteers and funded entirely by donations.
